The Nguyen Viet Xuan Orphanage houses and teaches almost 170 kids. The headmaster and staff are very hard-working and caring. Although they don’t always behave, they are very good kids who are fun to hang out with. Unfortunately, they did not have school uniforms. The majority of the money we raised (13,600,00 VND or approximately 764 dollars) was used to purchase jackets for all 170 students. I'll never forget how happy the children were as they were putting on their new jackets which arrived at the school on what was an unusually chilly day. |

The Nam Phuong Church is located in a rural area of Nam Dinh City. The church actively participates in the development of the area, helping out local schools and the local residents. The church library provides books that are lacking in the area schools. We purchased five boxes of books, maps, sporting equipment, board games, and posters for a total of 5,466,500 VND or approximately 303 dollars. The church organized a performance and a talk to show their appreciation. The morning after the books and supplies arrived, many kids eagerly waited for the library to open. |

The arrival of foreigners to the new volunteer house stirred up the interest of the neighborhood kids. They started coming by the house almost every evening to draw, learn English, and at the end of the night, take a test on what they learned. A lot of the supplies we used were given by Frank and Anna Shulman. To supplement, I bought some posters and books for the kids to use. Kelly Wood, a fellow international volunteer, also bought a lot of materials for the kids to use. Each night was a lot of fun and a little |

A portion of the fund was used to sponsor four disadvantaged students in Nam Dinh City. Each of these students struggle to pay for school fees and to support their families. The sponsorships are for the next five months or one school term. The total cost of the sponsorships was 6,000,000 VND or approximately 373 dollars. Kelly Wood shared half the cost so the total cost to the fund was 3,000,000 VND or approximately 167 dollars. The profile descriptions below were contributed by Mr. Truong Pham.
